Kylie Minogue - not a massive fan, but i loved the eye makeup. So I thought i would broaden my repertoire and try a piece in colour!

Ok don't laugh, i started off using Crayola. >_< They were *ok* but i thought it's not very professional, so i spent a small fortune on a set of 72 Derwent coloursoft pencils. They are rather lovely to use

Due to the switch in brand (& quality!), you may notice some tonal differences.

White pencil is god! Brilliant for blending layers of colour. I did screw up a lil on the lips and filtrum, so attempted to improve them in PS7. Trust me they look a bit better! Also added them lil bleach blonde hairs since i am not *that* skilled to add them on the actual pic. Had to adjust the contrast too as on my pc monitor it looked ok, but on my ibook (better monitor) it looked a little washed out. So i apologise if it looks weird on your monitor.

Anyway, i'm rather chuffed with my first serious colour pencil portrait! However critique is welcomed as i would like to improve.

WOW!!! Fantastic job!!! You seem to do pretty great with colored pencils!!! It's great that you spent on those colored pencils! I remember I thought I sucked with them, but when I bought quality colored pencils, I definitely saw a difference and now I do love using them!!!

Beautiful work! As for the critique - perhaps the shading under her lower lip, back of neck and jaw line should blend more, so that it looks more 3-dimensional...and some additional shading on that light patch on her right eyebrow because it looks like she's missing a few eyebrow strands. The dark area below her ear I think would benefit from more strand definition and some depth off field because it looks like one solid mass of color and doesn't look like it belongs with the rest of her hair. The strand definition towards the crown of her hair is great, btw, and must've been painstakingly tedious to make. How long did the entire drawing take? Overall, it's a great piece - I don't like getting technical when it comes to art, but you wanted a critique, so...
